Tom Van Alstyne

Tom Van Alstyne

Tom Van Alstyne is a Kinderhook native who grew up on Broad Street in one of the Federal style homes in the village. The son of a local land surveyor, at fifteen he was helping the field crew survey residential and commercial properties in Columbia County. Tom also began working on home repairs, property improvements and orchards while still a teenager, activities he still enjoys. He developed and maintained friendships with farmers in the area and understands the diverse land use in this region of New York, including the resurgence of small specialty farms.

While young, Tom discovered a talent for learning languages. He became fluent in Spanish, which enabled him in 1995 to begin serving as a court interpreter and translator in federal, state and local courts of New York’s Capital Region. His ongoing service as a linguist in the legal world brings a solid understanding of legal concepts and processes to the field of real estate. He also served as a project manager and contract specialist for the Research Foundation of SUNY in areas spanning overseas democracy and governance, workforce development and clinical trial contracts. Tom always aims to understand and communicate all the details that make up a real estate opportunity.

Tom earned a BA in Political Science and Anthropology and an MA in Anthropology from the University at Albany. He periodically travels with his family to an agricultural town in Chile, his wife’s home country. He will work hard to market your property, assist you in finding your desired property and respond enthusiastically to your inquiries.
